Scottish Home-Service Enquiry Benchmark
We reviewed 40 public enquiry journeys across Scottish roofing, heating, glazing, kitchen, bathroom and construction businesses. The question was simple: after a prospective customer calls or submits an enquiry, can they see a clear next step?
Public journeys reviewed
Two outreach research batches completed on 27 and 28 October 2026.
No visible booking route
The recorded audit did not identify a way to reserve a callback, survey, visit or consultation.
Broken or unavailable journey
A researched contact URL failed or the website was unavailable during the audit.
These findings describe what was visible during a dated public audit. They do not measure the businesses’ private response process or service quality.
Most Journeys Collected Contact Details Without Securing the Next Action
Forms frequently asked for a name, email, phone number and message. The audit found much less visible support for selecting a callback, survey or consultation time while the prospect was ready to proceed.
Some strong forms collected property or product details. Even then, the public journey often ended with a general promise that the team would respond rather than a defined next step.
Booking gap
The customer could enquire but could not visibly reserve the appropriate next action.
Unclear waiting period
Many journeys used broad wording such as “as soon as possible” or showed no response expectation.
Shallow qualification
General message boxes replaced job-specific questions that could prepare the first conversation.
Journey resilience
Three audits encountered a failed contact page or inaccessible website during inspection.
How the Audit Was Conducted
Build the research pool
SplashSol collected 100 public Scottish home-service prospects across high-value trades.
Select two working batches
Forty businesses were selected across roofing, heating, glazing, kitchens, bathrooms, home improvement and construction.
Review the public path
The audit recorded the visible phone, email, form, stated response expectation, qualification and booking route. No form was submitted.
Write one observed gap
Each record contains a factual public-journey observation used to personalise outreach.
Aggregate consistent definitions
The benchmark counts a booking route only when the recorded journey visibly offered a callback, survey, visit or consultation reservation.
Preserve the limitation
The audit cannot see internal CRM activity, actual response time, conversion rates or private follow-up.
A Practical Enquiry-Journey Checklist
Confirm receipt
Tell the prospect what arrived and what will happen next.
Set an expectation
Publish a response window the operating team can actually meet.
Ask useful questions
Collect the minimum information required to choose the next action.
Secure the next step
Offer a callback, survey or consultation route when the rules allow it.
Define human handoff
Escalate ambiguity, risk, complaints, pricing and technical judgement.
Track the outcome
Connect enquiry source, response, appointment, quotation and reported win.
